Rural Congress urges to save Gram Panchayats while making city Municipal CorporationMembers of the Congress Committee (Rural), including Sarpanchs of several villages wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, regarding the merging of several villages in the process of transforming Udaipur into a Municipal Corporation.

Hemant Shrimali, spokesperson, with Secretary Kamal Singh Choudhary, Badgaon Up-Sarpanch Narendra Suthar, Thur Sarpanch Ramesh Patel, Bhuwana Sarpanch Seema Chordiya and many other members of the Rural Congress showed their favor in transforming Udaipur into a Municipal Corporation, but added certain considerations, in their letter to the CM.

Rural congress members informed that administration is assimilating the nearby Gram Panchayats area in the process of making Municipal Corporation, however no consent from the related Gram Panchayats has been taken yet.

Members informed, “This is a violation of Panchayati Raj Act, as in the act all the necessary powers have been delegated to the Gram Panchayat”. The members also informed that if the criteria of Municipal Corporation is population then the newly build colonies of Badgaon Panchayat, Mahaveer Nagar, Technocrat Society, Shivam Complex Link Road, Navratna Complex Bhuwana, New Navratna Complex Bedla, Samta Nagar, B. G. Nagar and Shobhagpura’s new residential colonies could be merged in city’s periphery, whereby the status of Gram Panchayat can also be maintained.

Presently, main roads of the Panchayat’s coming under the UIT’s periphery are deplorable. They said that if the status of Gram Panchayat is demolished, then no ST, SC, and the Farmers can take benefit of the MNAREGA and other programs carried out by the Central and State for the benefit of the rural people.

They asked CM to take such measures that one hand Udaipur could become Municipal Corporation and on the other hand, status of the Gram Panchayats could also remain alive.
