In what is expected to bring great relief to the people residing near lakes of Udaipur, The Supreme Court of India has permitted Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) and Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) to grant permission of building construction under Building Byelaws 2013.

In 2007, Rajasthan High Court had ordered construction prohibited in ‘No Construction Zone’.  However, the civic bodies were unable to stop illegal constructions around the lake.

The new decision by Supreme Court has brought relief to both Udaipur administration and 1.50 lac people residing in No Construction Zone areas, mostly situated near water bodies.  There were more than 100 houses listed to be demolished by UMC and UIT but since the new orders have been issued, the action will be taken accordingly.

Soon after the information of SC’s judgment reached Udaipur, the affected people gathered at Jagdish Chowk and celebrated the occasion by busting firecrackers.

Mayor Rajni Dangi (Udaipur Municipal Corporation) has previously appealed to the State government to grant permission of construction and renovation as the people are residing near lakes since decades and need to construct, repair or renovate their residences due to extending families.

SC bench of Justice Anil R. Dave, Justice Vikramjeet Sen and Justice Pinakchandra Gosh heard the disputed case and settled the judgment by allowing constructions under Building Byelaws 2013.

Now people of the area will get State Grant Land patta, can also get bank loans for construction and also construct big houses around lakes.

The decision seems to have come at an opportune for the ruling Board, as the Municipal Elections are being held tomorrow and this news will get them a boost, as it has been their effort.
