Schools Disrupted Due to Orange Alert in Udaipur - Classes Suspended on 25 August

Udaipur, Aug 25, 2025: The District Collector announced late night on Sunday, August 24, that all the schools in Udaipur district will remain shut for regular classes, due to heavy rains alert in the region. The order from the Collector's office cited section 30 of Chapter 4 from the Udaipur District Disaster Management Plan 2005, which is not anything different from the State Disaster Management Plan (SDMP). The said sections gives the power to the district administrator to take necessary steps to mitogate risks associated with possible natural or man made disasters based on pre-defined alerts from the relevant authority.

Accordingly, all schools both government and private have been instructed to suspend classes for Aug 25 in view of the organge alert in the district and nearby districts. The classes of all grades (pre-primary till 12) have been suspended in Udaipur district. The order is applicable only for students and does not apply to teaching and non teaching staff of these schools, for which the school will be open as usual. The order says that any school not taking cogniscance of the order will face action.

As per the warnings from the Indian Met department, the districts of Udaipur, Rajsamand and Sirohi have been placed under Orange alerts, which technically means very heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning. However, the IMD has given rain alerts for 16 districts across Rajasthan.

The weather in the district as per online weather forecast tools, do not indicate much rain in the region. In Sawai Madhopur, for which there has been an alert. The district is seeing relentless rain, leading to overflow of the Surwal Dam, that triggered land slides and widespread flooding through many villages in the region on Sunday, Aug 24. Hundreds of houses in the villages of Dhanoli, Gogor, Machipura, Shesha and Surwal have been compromised in the flooding waters.

Heavy rains in Jaipur have caused waterlogging and schools have been ordered closed. the districts of Bundi and Kota are also facing flood like situations, with rescue operations going on in some areas. Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Churu, Hanumangarh, Rajsaamand, Tonk, Sirohi and Chittorgarh are also on the alert list till August 27, as per the Met department.
