Police department is soon to be equipped with Scorpio vehicles for chasing criminals. The department has sent a proposal to the government for buying Scorpio and other powerful vehicles to facilitate criminal chasing more effectively. As per information derived from police headquarters, the department is going to buy powerful vehicles based on types of terrains (desert, plains and hilly areas).

Police stations will make use of Scorpios for district blockades (nakabandi). Scorpios are being considered smart for highway patrolling. As per police department, Scorpio vehicles will be highly advantageous while chasing smugglers and other dangerous criminals. Proposal has been forwarded to the government for powerful jeeps which is likely to be approved soon. With the facility of various purpose vehicles, police department will be able to work on secret operations more effectively.

Old vehicles will be disposed off once the department gets new ones. The finalisation of this proposal might take 2 to 3 years. As per orders from police headquarter, police departments from all districts have sent old and condemned vehicles with a complete list to Jaipur.

DGP has formed a committee comprising of senior officers who will prepare reports of districts based on geographical conditions, criminal activities and requirement of vehicles based on these reports, said ADG Bhupendra Dak (Planning, Modernisation and Welfare) Rajasthan Police.

Earlier a report was given mentioning the facts that criminals are equipped with modern hi-tech weapons and vehicles. The irony being that police department is still making use of old style weak machinery vehicles and are not even packed with “lathis”, forget about having modern weapons. This was definitely a point of concern since chasing criminals with powerful vehicles and weapons was a tough, in fact an almost impossible task. Criminals are packed with assault rifles, snipers and machine guns but in Indian police department, not every policeman is allowed to carry even guns.
