It was nearly a decade that administration is working on DPR (Daily Project Report) for a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP). Today, Administration has compelled the agency to come up with a final report on the project, the decision was taken in a meeting held under the presidency of District Collector.

Today, Administration has compelled the agency to come up with a final report on the project, the decision was taken in a meeting held under the presidency of District Collector.

In the meeting held at Collectorate, in presence of Chairperson of both UIT and Udaipur Municipal Council (UMC), along with representative of Wapcos consulting, responsible for DPR and higher officials of respective from independent departments, discussions was undertaken over the burning issue of Dumping of Solid and liquid waste in Ayad River, also on speeding up the paper work and construction of STP.

R.K. Nebhnani, Project Coordinator, Power Projection Company said, “ We have gathered number of information on beautification, pollution and bedded encroachment within the river, project reports of the same will take around 6 months, but an interim report would be submitted in 3 months to UIT”.

To put a check on dumping of solid and liquid waste in channels connecting to Ayad and finally getting dumped in Udai Sagar Lake, UMC would be fencing on Ghumaniya nala, one passing via UIT Circle and other channels directly or indirectly connecting to Ayad River.

Vikas Bhale, District Collector said, “Udaipur being a tourist city, it is must that all the historical places are clean and required beatification should be done, emphasizing on Ayad River”.

Bhale added that we had received clear specification over the waste being dumped over past few years in this river; he further mentioned that High Court has directed for putting a check on encroachments on the land coming under river boundary.

Sources says that Sewerage Treatment project is on papers from past eight years, and faced number of problems regarding land acquisition, though earlier in year 2012 MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) was signed between HZL, UIT and UMC regarding land and other aspects; later in the same year land was identified and is still in the process of being handing over to HZL for construction work.

Informing about the vitals of Ayad, Roop Kumar Khurana, Chairmen, UIT said, “Ayad river is un-affected on around 11 Km stretch, while total length of river is 26 km”.

Anil Nepaliya, who is also appointed as a nodal officer of STP project informed, around 172 encroachments were identified, of which 82 were removed in a special program carried out by UIT in past calendar year.

In suggestions provided by other experts G.P. Soni from Chamber of Commerce suggested that if required land is provided, than the Chamber can invest up to Rs. 25 crore in the project, whereas another said that CTP (Common Treatment Plant) could also be developed on discharge points of canals using comparatively low budget and small land.
