Shade, Water, Awareness: Udaipur Preps for Heatwave

Udaipur District Collector issues key directives to officials to ensure arrangements for heatwave management

Udaipur, April 10, 2025 – As temperatures continue to rise across the State, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed all departments to implement effective measures for protection against heatwaves and heatstroke. To follow up on this, Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta held a video conference meeting yesterday, April 9, at the DOIT auditorium with district and block-level officials to discuss measures for heatwave management.

Emphasising that nothing is more valuable than life, the Collector instructed officials to ensure that not only humans but also animals and birds are safeguarded from the effects of extreme heat. He stressed that all necessary arrangements should be made immediately, and no negligence in heatwave management would be tolerated.

During the meeting, he reviewed the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) issued by the State Government and discussed it in detail with officials from PHED, Health, Education, Animal Husbandry, Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Bodies departments. He said that all departments must work in co-ordination to ensure that no untoward incidents occur owing to the heatwave in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADM (Administration) Deependra Singh Rathore, Zila Parishad CEO Ria Dabi, Nagar Nigam Commissioner Ram Prakash, CMHO Dr Ashok Aditya, PHED SE Lalit Nagauri, MB Hospital Superintendent Dr RL Suman, along with officers from relevant departments. Sub-divisional officers, development officers and block-level officials from concerned departments also joined via video conferencing.

Key Directives:

  • Shade and drinking water must be arranged at public places in both urban and rural areas for the general public. Provisions for food and water should also be made for animals and birds.
  • Ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
  • Drinking water should be supplied at regular intervals.
  • Start water supply via tankers in water-sensitive villages that have been identified.
  • At MGNREGA worksites, ensure the availability of shade, water and essential medicines.
  • Medical institutions should hold meetings of the Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society to ensure availability of necessary resources.
  • Ensure availability of drinking water, electricity, fans, coolers, essential medicines and dedicated wards in hospitals.
  • Sub-divisional officers should inspect gaushalas (cow shelters) and Nandi shalas to assess and implement heatwave protection measures.
  • Both private and government schools must provide proper ventilation, drinking water and First Aid facilities.
  • Outdoor activities for children should be avoided during extreme heat.
  • Raise awareness among children and the general public about the symptoms of heatstroke and preventive measures.
