Smart City: Only 500 acre land to see development

Instead of the entire city, a part of it; approximately 500 acre of land will be marked for development, as stated in the guidelines by Ministry of Urban Development resulting in preparations by Nigam accordingly.

Nigam Commissioner Himmat Singh Barhath informed that based on the guidelines, consultant will produce vision document. It is been said that if Nigam is ready to pool in more amount from their side, the area of development will likely be increased. Barhath returned from Delhi after attending the workshop in concern to Smart City Project.

Based on the guidelines, the wall city (interiors of Udaipur) might get marked in the first phase of smart city. This may include areas of Bhatiyani Chohatta, Jagdish Chowk, Moti Chohatta, Ghanta Ghar and Bada Bazar. Barhath said that with the presence of heritage in these areas less expense and time will be used for smart city development here. Nigam has already issued Rs.12 Cr project for heritage restoration of the markets.

Out of the 98 cities chosen across the country, 20 will be selected in the first phase which will receive Rs. 100 Cr from the central government. The challenge for us will be to come in the list of top 20. Smart City Cell in charge and Nigam SI Arun Vyas held discussion with XEN Manish Arora and Mukesh Pujari.

Commissioner said that the city requires at least Rs. 5,000 Cr for it to be made Smart. Out of this, central government will provide Rs. 500 Cr and the rest of which will be flowing in from state government and regional division. For the same, Nigam will have to consider increasing its revenue sources.
