Smart City Quota Announced – Modi Flags off Project on 25June

Udaipur is in the race for being considered among the 4 cities of Rajasthan under the Smart City project.  Along with Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Kota, the name of Udaipur is also in contention for the final 4.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Smart City project and the Amrit Yojna on 25th July and states have been asked to present the names of their cities as per the quota allotted (Rajasthan has been given a quota of 4, with maximum quota for Uttar Pradesh).

As per the regulations, the cities to be considered for Smart City project will need to be a Municipal Corporation, have a comprehensive billing system for utilities (Electricity and Water) and improved transportation systems need to be in place.  Cities where Information Technology is integrated to a substantial extent in city administration will be given preference.

Urban Development Minister Vankaiah Naidu on Tuesday said that the motive behind preparing a smart city was that the Smart City will help in developing the nearby cities, towns and villages.  Cities adjacent to Smart Cities will be included in the Amrit Yojna, which is being planned for upto 500 towns having a populace of 100,000 or more.
