The State Cleaner’s Commission (SCC) has brought major reforms in the working of a Cleaning Worker (sweepers) into action today.
In a press conference held at the Nagor Circuit House, R.D. Java, President, SCC informed us that the state will be adopting the cleaning patterns applicable in Gujarat and Maharashtra soon.
He further added that according to the new pattern no cleaner will have to carry a dirty dumpster with them. The State Government and the SCC are working hard to fight against this social evil of ours.
Java also said, “The cleaners will have a free medical checkup every year and if anyone is found to be physically ill, the cleaner will get a paid leave from the government.”
Gujarat and Maharashtra have also developed a housing colony for the cleaning workers, and Rajasthan will be doing the same. This will enable mother’s leave their children at home with more safety than ever.
SCC will also be providing educational and medical services to the children living in these housing colonies. Awareness programs for the importance of education will also be initiated in these areas. Java acknowledged that the Balmiki and Dalit communities are still backward and social awareness in the community is much needed.
Another vital decision taken by the SCC is that no cleaner will have to enter a gutter without the protective gear. The provision states that if the cleaners are forced to do so the Contractor or the Health Inspector in charge will have an investigation led against them.
The Commission also discussed on standard wages and the need for action to be taken against people who are abusing labor rights.
