Udaipur, Jan 1, 2026 - The State Transport Department will now take strict action against private buses found carrying goods on the roof. As per regulations, carriers installed on the roof of any passenger vehicle for transporting goods were required to be removed mandatorily by December 31. This included stage carriages, contract carriages and school buses (Bal Vahinis). According to the rules, transporting goods in passenger vehicles and allowing passengers to sit on the roof is strictly prohibited.

The department will reportedly begin enforcement action from January 1. Under this drive, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on small buses and Rs 10,000 on large buses.

The RTO has instructed all District Transport Offices, flying squads, inspectors and sub-inspectors to thoroughly check buses and passenger vehicles operating in their respective areas.
