The General Meeting of the Nagar Parishad after a long period of 5 and a half months started today with a strong protest by the opposition.  Dinesh Shrimali, opposition party leader said that according to the Nagar Palika Act the Board Meeting must be called every two months.

He also alleged that the Board is fully indulged in corruption and the meeting has been called so late to end the poster dispute in which it was written “Jail ki Janjeeren Tootengi,Humari Behne Chutengi, Aap Chalo Hum Aati Hain, Yeh Vishwas Delati Hain, Ye Dewaniyan Kahan Chali, Jail Chali Bhai Jail Chali”.

The last meeting of the board was conducted on 21.02.12, and in today’s meeting a 16 point agenda was to be discussed in the Board.  However, as soon as the meeting started the members of the opposition started shouting against the present Board and alleged that the Chairperson and many other committee members are thoroughly indulged n corruption and no decision is passed in the Board with the consent of the opposition.

Rajesh Singhvi (CPM) said that the Board does not want to discuss the “users charge” issue while the Hawkers and poor people are continuously harassed by the officials of the Nagar Parishad.

Vijay Ahuja raised a question on the identification of BPL families so that the house of the BPL is be identified and information regarding this is pasted outside his/her house.  On this Shipra Upadyay of Congress said “this is a good suggestion as one BJP “Mandal President” is also BPL and there are so many BPL’s who are having four wheelers”.

A question was also raised that besides getting 725 applications for BPL only 20-25 applications have been permitted.  There was also a discussion to give BPL cards as soon as possible to those who had applied for the card on medical grounds.

Ajay Porwal blamed the Chairperson that she had no information on the purchase of the grass, when  Paras Singhvi intervened and defended the Chairperson .

The Board in the meeting also suggested for four divers to be recruited by UMC and along with this there was also a suggestion of starting ten pedal Boats in “Dudh Talai” on which Dinesh Shimali said that the condition of Dudh Talai is depleted and boats can get stuck in the water grass and the garbage present in the Dudh Talai there.

It was interesting that Nagar Parishad was very careful on the question of the cleaning of the lakes and their officials were seen arguing firstly that UIT does the cleaning of the lakes and the ownership of the lakes is with the Irrigation and Water Works department and there is no help from the District Collectorate and the men employed by the UMC for the cleaning of the lakes is few.  Here the Chairperson suggested that suggestions are invited by the Board from the House that by what procedure lakes would remain clean.  Archana Sharma alleged that the Divisional Commissioner continuously interferes in the internal matters of Nagar Parishad over the Fateh Sagar Lake issue.

MLA (city) Gulab Chand Katariya, MLA (Rural) Sajjan Katara, and Vice-Chairperson UMC, Mahendra Singh were present in the meeting.
