The country’s most beautiful city in terms of its tourism quotient, has just managed to scrape through in the top 100 clean cities of India.

The City of Lakes Udaipur, one of the country’s most beautiful cities in terms of its tourism quotient, has just managed to scrape through in the top 100 clean cities of India. Udaipur has ranked 95th in the list of cities with a population between 1-10 lakh. The New Delhi Municipal Corporation has ranked 1st  in this category. The Award ceremony was organized today on 20 November at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The district of Dungarpur, which was categorized in the list of cities with a population of 25-30 thousand, has secured the third spot. Dungarpur is a part of the Udaipur division. Dungarpur is the only city in Rajasthan that has figured in the top 10 in any category of the Survey.

Indore has once again retained its top spot as the cleanest city in India, with Surat and Vijayawada taking the second and third spot respectively. 4 cities of Rajasthan that have found a place in the top 50 cities (population of more than 10 lakh) are Jaipur Heritage (32), Jodhpur North (35), Jaipur Greater (36) and Kota (48). Ahmedabad has been declared the cleanest cantonment.

Jodhpur South (126), Ajmer (168), Sikar (186) and Pali (199) are the other cities in the category of 1-10 lakh population from Rajasthan. Chhattisgarh has been declared the cleanest state in the country.

Swachh Sarvekshan Survey carried out by the Quality Council of India is conducted on the basis of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation of cities participating in the survey. This exercise began in 2016 as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. 73 cities participated in the first survey in 2016, of which 53 were cities were with a population of more than 10 lakh and also included all state capitals. This list grew to 4242 by 2020. In 2021, 4,320 cities participated in the survey.
