Thokar Chauraha Development Plan to Bring Traffic Relief

Udaipur, March 21, 2026 - The Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) has begun extensive improvement work at Thokar Chauraha which is one of the busiest and most congested intersections in the city.  Redevelopment work under the City Mobility Plan has now commenced to provide relief from long-term traffic jams,

This intersection connects major routes of the city, witnessing the movement of thousands of vehicles daily. However, the presence of electric poles, transformers, water pipelines, cables and drainage lines along it has narrowed the road, leading to frequent traffic congestion.

After completion of the development work, traffic pressure at the intersection is expected to reduce significantly. The construction of slip lanes will allow vehicles to pass smoothly without stopping, minimising congestion at the junction. Nearby roads, which often get affected by traffic buildup, will also benefit.

Key Development Works

• Four transformer poles near Railway Hospital are being shifted
• Underground cabling is being laid after removing electric poles across a 200-metre stretch
• Drain coverage work is underway by Udaipur Nagar Nigam near Railway Hospital
• Water supply pipelines and valves will be relocated
• Divider construction and road resurfacing (asphalting) will be carried out
• Slip lanes will be constructed once additional land is available
