Udaipur city’s traffic lights are proving that smart-city tagging is merely for namesake. A number of city’s cross roads have traffic lights which are not in working condition. Some of these traffic lights lack maintenance. The result is but obvious, traffic isn’t organised and this situation is very likely to cause mishaps on roads.

It has been pointed out that traffic lights are not working at most of the points in the city. One after another, traffic lights have stopped working due to lack of maintenance. Delhi Gate, Court Circle and Udiapole traffic lights are not in working condition since long. Now lights at Chetak Circle have also gone out of order. People are also taking advantage of the situation and moving about without caution.

As per sources, PWD had given the responsibility to Municipal Corporation which was not followed by the latter. Since past two years, traffic lights are lacking maintenance and almost all lights are now out of order.

As per President of Electricity Committee, PWD has written to Municipal Corporation regarding the issue of traffic lights. Corporation will now take action. Tenders have been issued for the repair and maintenance of traffic lights and soon everything will be in order.
