Balanced party leadership in local body elections in Rajasthan - Congress BJP share the spoils

Udaipur and Partapur go to BJP while Congress heads Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Kanod and Banswara

While the final results of the local body elections in Rajasthan were declared on 19 November, it was still a wait till today before the board formation proceedings could be declared.

BJP has lost its stronghold in Rajasthan and the effect was displayed in Udaipur division.  While the Udaipur Mayor and Local Municipal board was retained by the BJP, thanks to the powerful local presence and clout of Gulab Chand Kataria, the BJP has failed miserably in other parts of Udaipur division.

Congress, on the other hand, has come back with vengeance, to what CM Ashok Gehlot says, is a mandate for his government.  In Udaipur division, the local bodies will not be headed by Congress in Kanod, Rajsamand, Banswara and Chittorgarh.

Chanda Devi Meena of Congress was elected as Chairperson at KanodManish Rathi of Congress at Rajsamand and Jinendra Trivedi of Congress at Banswara.  Udaipur Mayor elect is Govind Singh Tak of BJP and Dilip Parmar of BJP is the head at Partapur.

Across Rajasthan, after the citizen mandate was out on 19 November, the Congress bagged 11 of the 17 Municipal Councils and 15 of the 29 Municipalities.  BJP, which had a major stronghold in the state assembly as well as the local bodies in 2014, won just on 3 municipal councils and managed to win only 6 of the 29 municipalities.  The other seats went to independent candidates.

Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, a leader of the Congress and a state minister had said on November 19, that the mandate of the people against the BJP is a reflection of the failure of the party and this momentum will gradually spread across the nation.
