Udaipur has been included in the list of 100 cities of India which might become smart city as selected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Rajasthan, 4 cities including Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer are selected. Further decision will be taken by State Government in assembly meeting.

On implementation of Smart City Project in Udaipur, roads especially highways would be kept clean along with installation of safety measures. Local transport would be strengthened; public places will be equipped with WiFi and other ultra modern facilities.

The listed cities are required to have some basic amenities for implementing the project, said sources.The parameters of smart city includes proper sewerage line, heritage walk, low carbon mobility, presence of good education institutes and stared hotels.

Some of the listed facilities are already available in city, while rest are in pipeline for District Administration.

Ashutosh Pednekar, District Collector informed, “We did not receive any such instruction at present, though decision is taken by central ministry. Udaipur has every scope of becoming a smart city, which will help in attracting more and more tourists every year.”
