Udaipur Municipal Corporation Set to Receive Funds from World Bank

Udaipur is one of the 9 cities that have been selected under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme towards Capacity Building for Urban Development (CBUD). The selected cities will receive funds to work towards successful urban development and poverty reduction.

 

Udaipur Municipal Corporation Set to Receive Funds from World Bank

Udaipur is one of the 9 cities that have been selected under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme towards Capacity Building for Urban Development (CBUD). The selected cities will receive funds to work towards successful urban development and poverty reduction.

An MoU was signed today between Udaipur Municipal Corporation and the World Bank in this regard. This MoU, which is a tri-party agreement between World Bank, Indian Government and Municipal Council Udaipur, will now be forwarded to Indian Government for further action.

Today’s meeting in Jaipur was attended by principal secretary G.S Sandhu, UMC Commissioner and representatives of World Bank.

The JNNURM project is time bounded for 5 years and will conclude in 2016. Under this project all the local governing bodies of 9 cities including Udaipur will be working on improving skills in areas of Governance, Planning, Service and on reducing poverty in their cities. Project will also include capacity building for effective urban poverty monitoring and alleviation.

According to Satyanarayan Acharaya, Commissioner, UMC, “Fund will be transferred to Indian Government by World Bank, while Indian Government will pay it off to local governing bodies of various states”.

Municipal Corporations will be entitled for money as per requirement.
