Two years ago, on January 28,2016, Government had announced first list of 20 smart cities. Two years since, ministry of housing and urban affairs has released list of best performing smart cities. Udaipur has ranked 4th in the list.

Surat topped the list with the largest number of projects implemented and completed under the Smart City Mission. Surat was followed by Pune, Visakhapatnam, Udaipur, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Jaipur and Indore in that order.

In details released by ET, seven of the top-10 ranked cities are the ones that are ruled by BJP Government.

The report notes that progress has been very slow across these 20 cities. Out of 964 projects worth Rs 46,800 planned 2-years back, only 83 have been completed. That means a miserly 8.6%. Ministry is expecting a lot of these projects to be completed on ground in 2018. Most of these projects have a completion time frame of 18 months and hence should see completion in 2018.
