Udaipur to Get Over Rs 363 Cr Elevated Corridor on NH-48; Will Ease Traffic Woes
The Central Government approves a Rs 363.89 crore elevated corridor in Kherwara on NH-48, easing traffic, improving safety, and boosting Udaipur-Gujarat connectivity
Udaipur, April 6, 2026 - The Central Government has officially approved the construction of a Rs 363.89 crore elevated corridor in the Udaipur region - in Kherwara town on the Udaipur-Ratanpur-Shamlaji stretch of NH-48, connecting Rajasthan with Gujarat.
This was announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who said "Approval has been granted for the construction of an elevated corridor in Kherwara town on NH-48 in Rajasthan at a cost of Rs 363.89 crore. The project fulfils a long-pending demand of residents for an elevated structure”.
Kherwara is a busy commercial hub and traffic jams have been a major issue for years. This project fulfills a decades-old demand of local residents.
The project is aimed at solving long-standing issues such as:
- Reduce heavy traffic congestion in Kherwara
- Separate local and highway traffic (vehicles will bypass the town via elevated road)
- Improve road safety, especially at accident-prone “black spots”
- Cut travel time for vehicles traveling between Udaipur and Ahmedabad
The elevated corridor is expected to:
- Boost tourism access to Udaipur
- Improve logistics and trade movement
- Enhance regional connectivity with Gujarat
After approval, the next steps typically include detailed project report (if pending finalisation), tendering and contractor selection. Construction timeline has not officially been announced yet.
