Idol immersion during festive season is one of the biggest reasons for lake pollution in Udaipur.  To combat this problem, UIT and Nagar Nigam will collaboratively construct open tanks around lakes. Four prominent places have been marked, the construction process of which is also in motion.

Corporation Commissioner Himmat Singh Barhath informed that in the first phase the places for the tanks have been marked. This includes Dudh Talai, Gulab Bagh premise (around Samor Bagh road), Swaroop Sagar Bridge (Downstream of overflow section) and behind Ambapol sewerage pump house. After the immersion, the worship materials will be extracted.

Plaster of Paris, harmful chemicals and multi-colored idols along with the worship materials inserted in the water bodies emit lead, copper, mercury and arsenic which hampers the ecosystem and reduce the level of oxygen in the water body.

This water not only leads to death of sea creatures but vegetables, fruits and other perishable items grown in this water and consumed leads to cancer, skin disease, nervous system disorder and digestion problems etc.
