Ram Niwas Mehta Secretary, UIT, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by Bharatpur court along with 2 others for destroying crops on account of encroachment.

Basis complaint filed with the Bharatpur court, the judge carried out hearings from both sides and District Magistrate Mamata Saini found Ramnivas Mehta, Puranchand Gupta and Bhagwan Sahay Meena guilty. All 3 were given one year sentence. The trio were later granted bail on the same day.

The case dates back to 1998. The applicant said that they had sown Mustard (sarson) in their field in late 1997. The standing crop was illegally destroyed using a tractor at the orders of Deputy District Collector Bayana, Ramnivas Mehta.

Ram Niwas Mehta said that they would appeal against the order. The land in question was a grazing ground and they are awaiting the file copies from court before proceeding further.
