A Team from the Municipal Council has chopped off a number of branches of decades old Banyan Tree at Hathipol which had gone fragile and were swaying down resulting in possible threat to passers-by.

However, even after a long process and blocking of the road traffic, local residents and shop keepers of the area are still not satisfied with the work of the council as a large and potentially risky part of the tree is left out due to a technical failure.

“They left most risky branch of the tree uncut because their chopping machines were leaking oil,” said a local resident of the area.

Residents who complained to the council a week back said that being located in one of the dense traffic areas of the city, the banyan tree, which is said to be around 80 years old, is a continuous threat because of heavy branches and weak roots.
