An Underpass at the Thokar Railway Crossing has been approved at the UIT meeting held on Tuesday, January 10 at the UIT Premises, under the Chair of Ravindra Srimali, Chairman, UIT, Udaipur.  This was the first trust meetings since Srimali has taken over as Chairman.

The total cost of this project has been estimated at Rs. 5 Crore, of which the UIT has committed 50% from its coffers.  The remaining funds will be contributed by the Indian Railways, as this will as this project will be undertaken jointly by the Indian Railways and UIT, Udaipur.  The Railways has already taken a No Objection Certificate from the Collector, for closing the Railway crossing.  Construction of the Underpass will eliminate the traffic congestions seen frequently at the Railway crossing at Thokar.

Earlier, during the Chairmanship of Shiv Kishore Sanadhya, the proposal of an Underpass or Overbridge at the railway crossing had been proposed and discussed at length but never came to a conclusion.  Srimali, on taking over as Chairman, initiated the discussions once again and this time, after a comprehensive site survey and consultations, it was finally decided that an overbridge will not be feasible at the location due to various existing buildings and businesses around, and an Underpass will be the ideal solution.

Apart from the Underpass at Thokar Chauraha, various other initiatives, viz. sewerage construction at various locations, widening of the 100 ft road, Bedla – Bhuwana Link road, etc have also been approved at the Trust meeting.  A fund of Rs. 5 Crore has been allocated by the Trust for the following tasks as well – Carpeting works from Saras Dairy till Balicha Crossroad; Road construction at Gokul Village and RK Puram as well as from Jeevan Tara at Goverdhan Vilas till Arihant Green Villa project; construction of pavements from Paras Rail bridge till Krishi Mandi Gate, via Reti Stand and from Savina till Krishi Mandi gate via Krishi Mandi (Fruits and Vegetables); Sewerage construction at Swami Nagar on 100ft road and ‘C’ Block at Transport Nagar; among other smaller projects.
