The building of Vishal Mega Mart at Paras tiraha has been seized by Municipal Corporation. The action was taken following the negligence of the store regarding fire safety provisions. The 5-storeyed building was first notified in January 2019 and then in April for lacking in necessities for fire safety. Final notice was sent in the month of May which again went ignored.

 Early morning of Friday proved to be a shocking start of the day for the employees at the Mega Mart. While the staff was still busy cleaning the store before the arrival of customers, the team of Municipal Corporation along with teams from Disaster Management and fire brigade went and carried out the action of seizing the building for 3 months.

It has been pointed out that the fire safety systems were improper in the building which could lead to disaster in case of emergency. The teams said that the stair case inside the building is close to being blocked since it is stacked with different products. If at all there is an emergency, the blocked stair case would obstruct the path of escape for the visitors. There is no provision for outlet of smoke in case of fire and the doors which can be used for evacuation are kept locked. Also the fact that there was no permission for constructing the 5^th floor which was done by the builders for which a penalty was paid later for regualrisation, became one more issue.
