Plans for development of the walled city area under Smart City project are set to get underway soon. Rs 4.49 Crore have been estimated for progress work and tenders set to be issued for various works. Proposals have been invited from interested companies for carrying out the work and tendering process will be initiated post that.

As per the information available, Rs 1.49 Crores will be spent on improving the sewerage system of all wards that come under the walled city, Rs 58 Lakhs will be spent on 24 hour water supply, Rs 65 Lakhs for underground ducting, Rs 1 Crore for underground cabling of electricity wires and Rs 77.64 Lakhs for repair of roads and drainage system.

Smart City CEO Siddarth Sihag said that companies will be shortlisted on the basis of their experience, capabilities and technical capabilities. Post that shortlist, they will initiate the tendering process. First phase of the selection process will be completed by April, tendering by July and work is expected to be initiated by August.

For smooth executing of the work, all major works will be given out to one firm only. This will ensure no coordination gaps exist in carrying out the work and it is executed swiftly. Complete work is expected to be executed over a period of 2 years.

Road digging and traffic diversions are expected to be undertaken during this phase. Smart City board has started discussions and planning for the same.
