District Collector Calls to Support Earth Hour

Udaipur District Collector, Hemant Gera has made an appeal to common people of the city to support during the ‘Earth Hour’ on 31 March by switching-off the power of all non-essential domestic electrical appliances for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
The Earth Hour is a yearly recurring event followed in all parts of the world to promote the awareness about Climate Change. Earth Hour follows the tagline “to halt and reverse the destruction of our environment”.

On 31st March, 2012 from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, many countries including India would be supporting the cause by either shutting-off or by minimizing the electricity consumption during the stated hour.

In Udaipur, various Organizations and Institutions would be supporting the cause. It is to minimize the carbon emission on planet and also to cut-off the electricity usage to reduce greenhouse effect.

Earth Hour is getting a warm response since its inception in 2007 from Sydney, Australia. Every year, millions of people add their contribution to it.

In 2011 Earth Hour was supported by 5,251 cities and towns in 135 countries and territories in all the seven continents. It had an estimated reach of 1.8 billion people across the globe.
