Gangu Kund overflow at Midnight was Technical, not a Miracle!
Gangu Kund, located at Mahasatiya, Ayad witnessed a phenomenal water stream gushing upwards in the pond, which subsequently filled the historical pond to the top. Gangu Kund, located at Mahasatiya, Ayad witnessed a phenomenal water stream gushing upwards in the pond, which subsequently filled the historical pond to the top. This continuing flow of water was noticed at the midnight of 26th-27th April, as per the news published in one of the local Hindi dailies today.
The water soon touched the Shiva Temple, which has both historical and religious significance, placed at the center of the puddle.
According to the newspaper, two residents of the area noticed the sound of gushing water coming from the Gangu Kund and soon the information reached nearby residents who rushed in to witness the ‘Miracle’.
However, contrary to the assumption that the flowing water was miracle (or mystery), another resident informed UT that the flow of water was actually meant to go through a pipe that accidently separated from the motor pump and the water, instead of being dispersed outside the pond, remained gushing within the pond itself.
A man, who did not wish to disclose his identity, said that he is a regular visitor of Maa Satiya.
He said, “There is a frequent fluctuation noticed in the water levels of the Gangu Kund, and that is natural as the source of water is underground. There was an automatic drainage outlet constructed at the time of Maharanas but the Nagar Parishad has blocked that drainage due to the canal known as Bekni Nala which is further connected to a small pond near Chandanwadi.”
“Alternatively, a motor pump was placed in Gangu Kund to cast out extra water.”
According to the informant, last night the pipe connected to the pump got separated from it and the motor e started pitching the water upwards. The depth of the pond near the pump is around 20ft and on the other side it is around 15 feet.
Gagan Bihari Nagda, one of the members of Gangu Kund Seva Samiti who is also a priest at a temple in Gangu Kund said that the motor pump was left running last night. According to information provided by Nagda, the motor runs in four hour intervals to drain out water from the kund to stop overflow.
“If the motor is not operated, the water level rises automatically and what happened yesterday was that the pipe attached to the motor came off due to pressure and the water started gushing out, giving the feel of water rushing out in the form of rising from the ground, when it was actually coming from the machine” he said.
Hence along with the natural rise in water level, and no water going outside the pond, Gangu Kund got filled.
The Gangu Kund was constructed in the 17th Century by the then Maharaja of Udaipur. It holds a special pious relevance among the devotees.
