High speed trains with speeds upto 110km will soon start plying on the Udaipur-Ajmer circuit. Foundation stone for electrification of the Ajmer-Udaipur route was laid earlier last month  near Adarsh Nagar railway station in Ajmer.

Estimated to be electrified at a cost of around Rs 315 Crores, the project is expected to be completed by Dec 2018. Post initial trials, electric trains between Ajmer and Udaipur will start plying from Mar 2019.

Currently, the section between Udaipur to Ajmer runs on Diesel engines. Doubling of tracks in the 294 km section will also help in doing away with the diesel engines and will help in reducing air pollution. Track doubling will also help in easing up the situation when two trains need to cross each other. Currently, on certain sections, one train has to stop till the other passes by.
