Indian Student Parliament: Udaipur Representatives Participated

2nd Indian Student Parliament was organized by MIT School of Government, Pune from 10 to 12 Jan. 2012 which was attended by more than 7000 student leaders from all over India as well as from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and UK etc. The theme was “Inspiring Youth for Strengthening Democracy”. Dr. Kamal Singh Rathore, Associate Professor from BN Girls College of Pharmacy with Krishna Bhatt, Heena Kakadiya and Priya Kakadiya attended and participated in this notable event as representatives from Udaipur.

The theme was “Inspiring Youth for Strengthening Democracy”. Dr. Kamal Singh Rathore, Associate Professor from BN Girls College of Pharmacy with Krishna Bhatt, Heena Kakadiya and Priya Kakadiya attended and participated in this notable event as representatives from Udaipur.

The inauguration ceremony was organized at Swami Vivekanand Mandap, MIT Campus and it was inaugurated by Mr Ajay Makan, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Prof. Vishwanath Karad, President MIT welcomed all the dignitaries while Mr.Rahul V. Karad, Initiator and Convener narrated the concept note.

A special felicitation program was organized for the world renowned cartoonist Padma Vibhushan and R.K.Laxman. Other renowned personalities who addressed the august gathering were Nandita Das, Actress and Chairperson of Children’s Film Society of India; Liam Burns, President National Student Union of UK; Sam Pitroda, Advisor to Hon’ble PM of India on scientific matters and Irina Bokova, Director Generalof UNESCO. They delivered their messages through video conferencing. Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Chairman Academic Council MIT School and Ex-Chairman CSIR also addressed the students.

The three days event had nine sessions on varied topics including ‘Politics of Development, Where is India’s Obama, Bridging the Urban-Rural divide, Saving the Planet: Is It Too Late, Join Politics: Lead your India, CSR: Business Beyond profit, Corruption free India: Dream or Reality, Yes India Can and Social Networking for Social Action’. These sessions were addressed by various notable personalities who are expert in their respective fields viz. ShriShri Ravi Shankar (Spirituality), Kapil Dev (Sports), Shashi Tharoor (Politics),  G Vittal Rao (KaviGadar-Social Reformer), R.K.Pachori (Environment Activist), Narayan Murti (Business), Anurag Singh Thakur (Politics), Anu Aga (Business), ArnabGoswami (Journalism), Dalai Lama (Spirituality), ShaileshRao (Business-Yahoo India), Manoj Joshi (Films), Mahesh Manjrekar (Films), Dr.Vijay Bhatkar (Science and Technology)etc.

The valedictory ceremony was attended and addressed by Tushar Gandhi (Executive Chairman, MIT-SOG and great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi), Tripurari Sharan, Director General of Doordarshan, Dr.R. Mashelkar , Dr. Vijay Bhatkar and eighteen student leaders from various universities of India who were chosen to speak on this occasion. They also got a chance to visit Europe on educational tour from MIT.

Various resolutions were also passed during these sessions and all the participants participated in it through SMS voting system. Neelam Sharma, famous news reader on DD and Star News was the anchor for most of the sessions.
