Involvement of Rural Level Necessary for Child Safety: Deepak Kalra
Chairperson for State Child Rights Commission for Rajasthan Ms. Deepak Kalra spoke in Udaipur today about the importance of educating and nourishing children as well as providing the basic facilities as well as livelihood that they have been deprived of. Ms. Kalra highlighted the importance of the family, the society as well as the village in order to undertake this task.

Ms. Kalra highlighted the importance of the family, the society as well as the village in order to undertake this task.
The Chairperson also emphasized against the use of child labor and the enforcement of the law against the people who utilize children for their own purposes. “Anti-Trafficking Units will be deployed at the border of the state from June in order to effectively combat the trafficking of children to other states,” she said.
In particular, Kalra pointed out the trafficking of children from Rajasthan to be used as forced labor at BT cotton farms in Gujarat, describing the serious working conditions there. In order to control this menace, she stated that the government of Rajasthan and Gujarat as well as the villages from which the children are taken.
Finally, Ms. Kalra focused on the issue of rehabilitation of children who are forced to indulge in child labor and the importance of government welfare schemes for it. She also praised the work done by the newly formed committee citing that it was able to stop 14 child marriages in the week of Akshay Tritiya whereas the total number for the entire year had only been 13.
