A group of legal experts led by Justice Dalip Singh Rathore – Executive Chairman, Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Jaipur addressed the prisoners of Udaipur about law and the latest development in legal services at the camp held in Udaipur Central Jail today.

Hundreds of prisoners attended the awareness camp titled ‘Arbitration: Need of the Hour & Plea Bargaining’ in which, several developing laws have been introduced by the legal experts.

K.B Katta, Member Secretary, Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Jaipur; Mahendra Maheshwari, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Udaipur; Mukesh, ADJ Fast track, Udaipur and Buddhi Prakash, Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, educated the inmates on the technical aspects of law.

“Being a prisoner doesn’t mean that you don’t have a right to appeal, right to information and right to educate”, says Justice Dalip Singh Rathore. He also elaborated the concept of Plea Bargaining in which convicts can try to negotiate if they seriously feel apologetic for the offense to the victim, and if the victim apologizes to the convict, he/she can have the jail term reduced.

An appeal form has been given to every prisoner to get detailed information about his offense, jail term and personal details.

Justice Singh also explained about the model of Legal Aid Clinic, which is a free of cost service for the poor and needy, and will be instigated soon; the concept will run under the Directions of the District Judge and also have a team of lawyers to coordinate.

At the start of the camp, Mahendra Maheshwari talked about parole and legal terms and services, while K.B Katta explained further details about parole. A question answer session was also held between the prisoners and law experts.

Justice Dalip Singh Rathore and his team is on a tour to all jails of Rajasthan state. They visited. Udaipur today after conducting the camp at Sikar, Chittorgrah, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, etc.
