11 Sept the day Udaipur will remember for the sudden thunderstorm that surprised everyone and compelled to reminisce of what happened in 2006. This torrential rain has affected the lives of the people all around. One person died while several others were injured in various accidents that took place in the season’s heaviest rainfall which lashed the city of lakes on Sunday 11, September.
In the last 24 hours, Udaipur has received 789.8 mm of rainfall while the highest has been recorded at Som pickup with 1400mm of rain. Almost all the areas of Mewar got well sobbed in the rainy congregation yesterday.
Nearly flood like situation has tensed the people last night while many areas of Udaipur were declared dangerous. There are still many areas which are completely or partially submerged in water. Some areas of Bohra Ganesh, Tekri, Roopsagar Lake, Hiran Magri Sec-13, Pratapnagar are the most affected due to heavy downpour. All small and big lakes, dams, rivers and canals are full. The weather department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in next 48 hours in Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jodhpur. One person, a student from Nagaur area was electrocuted due to lightning on the night of 11
th September, the deceased was later identified as Narendra and he was student of Computer Application in MLSU.
More than half a dozen cases of drowning and road accident have been reported due to heavy rain last night but no serious injuries or death has been reported so far. However, due to heavy showers a part of Shehar Kot (the city’s old wall) collapsed and fell on the adjacent homes but fortunately no casualty took place. This happened at around 2 am in front of Railway Station area. Due to heavy rain, several students stayed back at home as there was no holiday declared by the administration. A Few other schools declared off according to the condition while many continued working. Administration is alert to keep the condition under control but the last night there was a big mismanagement that came to the front. The Wooden planks that were put at Fateh Sagar channel gate succumbed but no action was taken till today morning. There was no one to answer the phone call at flood control room. At many places there was no one from administration to help the people trapped in submerged colonies. Truly! Udaipur is a beautiful city but we are unfortunate due to unplanned governance. We cry for rain but we cannot take it because we can’t really take it.
