It has been nine days but the accused in Advocate Neeta Sharma suicide case is still out of police’s reach.

Member of Bar Association Neeta Sharma committed suicide a few days back. Advocate Chetan Menaria, accused in this case, is still absconding. Family members of the deceased, in a meeting with the media, raised questions on the investigations done by the police and laid their suspicion on Bharat Joshi, former President of Bar Association. It has been pressed upon that Bharat Joshi is trying to defend Chetan Menaria on the pretext of impartial investigation. Brother Kapil Sharma and father Dilip Sharma of the deceased said that on the 9^th day after the incident, police inspected the site near Mahakaleshwar temple where Neeta was found unconscious after consuming poison. They also said that onlookers informed Neeta’s friend Ritu Mehta when they found her unconscious on the spot. At that time, Ritu was in Bahrat Joshi’s chamber in court. Chetan Menaria was also present in the same chamber when Ritu attended the call. Ritu called up her husband and went with him to the site where Neeta was seen as per the phone call. It was after the death of Neeta that Ritu reported she had taken her to the hospital with her husband’s help. As per family members and Bar Association head Sheetal Nandwana, there is something fishy in the whole episode. It is said that Bharat Joshi and Chetan Menaria had accompanied Ritu upon getting the phone call.

Why is the accused absconding?

Neeta’s family members have been constantly raising the same question that if the accused Chetan is innocent, then why is he absconding? They are of the opinion that Ritu Mehta is trying to escape investigation since she is being pressurised by Bharat Joshi. She is feigning a wound on her hand and is not coming forward even for verbal statement. Family members of Neeta Sharma also reported that Chetan had taken 5 lakh rupees from Neeta, 4 lakhs for purchasing car and 1 lakh for personal needs. They also have proofs of the same.

Before hiding away, Menaria denied the statements of Neeta’s family saying that he did not borrow any money from her. Instead she was pressurising him to marry her. He also stated that he was busy attending a case with Consumer State Forum when Neeta died. Bharat Joshi has also denied all the accusations and has asked for the accused to be severely punished.
