New Boating Route to Nehru Garden from Rani Road

Udaipur Development Authority shifts tourist access route to ease traffic near Mumbaiya Bazaar
 |

Udaipur, July 24, 2025 - Tourists and locals will now be able to access Nehru Garden, situated in the middle of Fateh Sagar, from the Rani Road side. The Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) has decided on this new route to reduce traffic congestion on Mumbaiya Bazaar side and also promote Rani Road as an access point.

The UDA has given a boating contract for this route for operating battery-powered boats from the Rani Road side directly to the Nehru Garden. As per the tender terms, the contractor can deploy seven battery-powered boats and two petrol-operated rescue boats.

According to district administration and UDA officials, the route to Nehru Garden has been changed this year to increase public movement along Rani Road. Currently, boating is available from three points on the Mumbaiya Bazaar side, which witnesses the highest footfall. The heavy crowd and high vehicle movement often cause traffic congestion. When tourists visit Nehru Garden from the same side, it adds to the chaos.

The embarkation point to Nehru Garden from Rani Road will be from near the gym park adjacent to Rajiv Gandhi Garden. The boat operator will set up a jetty and ticket booking counter at this location. Additional facilities for visitors will also be provided.

The UDA has leased the boating contract from this point for an annual amount of Rs 2.65 crore in the first year. As more facilities are added to Nehru Garden next year, the contract value will increase to Rs 3.85 crore annually. Ticket sales will close at 7:00 pm in the first year, with the last return boat at 8:00 pm. Once lighting is installed next year, operations may extend until 10:00 pm.

The UDA has invested approximately Rs 7 crore to revamp Nehru Garden, giving it a fresh new look. The upgrades include features such as a jungle-themed park, musical fountain, restaurant and other visitor amenities.
