Udaipur, June 4, 2025 - Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has said that there should be no compromise on quality in the construction of the Elevated Road which is underway in the city. Kataria said this during a meeting with officials of the Udaipur Nagar Nigam and Smart City Project at the Smart City office auditorium in Town Hall yesterday, June 3.
The Elevated Road will stretch from Banshi Pan to the city railway station and is expected to provide relief from traffic congestion.
The Governor emphasised the importance of taking into account potential accident zones during construction and to ensure the public is not inconvenienced during the monsoon season owing to mud and other related issues at the project site.
Nigam officials briefed Kataria on the progress of the Elevated Road project.
Kataria also discussed the Ayad river saying all obstructions in the river’s natural path be cleared before the monsoon. He suggested planting long-surviving plants along its banks and to ensure its maintenance through continuous monitoring.
He further asked the CEO of Udaipur Smart City Limited for updates on Smart City projects. He urged that the public be encouraged to dispose of household waste only in designated tipper vehicles.
The Governor also discussed hotels in the city with the Nigam Commissioner and asked whether they were adhering to the given rules. These include installation of oil and grease chambers and strict prohibition of sewerage discharge into lakes. He directed the Commissioner to inspect all hotels and take strict action against those not complying with these requirements.
The meeting was attended by Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain, Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, District Collector Namit Mehta, former Mayor of the Municipal Corporation GS Tank, Nigam Commissioner Ram Prakash, Smart City CEO Krishna Pratap Singh, Superintendent Engineer Mukesh Pujari and other officials.
