Rain goes Unabated: Overflowing Lakes, Dams and Rivers
Of 31 lakes and dams, in Udaipur district 14 are already overflowing including city’s Lake Sawroop Sagar and Lake Fateh Sagar while most of the lakes are still receiving water from other natural or manmade canals and rivers.
After sufficient rainfall, the city of lakes has turned into a heaven on the earth. The lush green Aravali, flowing of rivers and spilling lakes have filled all faces with happiness and excitement.
Of 31 lakes and dams, in Udaipur district 14 are already overflowing including city’s Lake Sawroop Sagar and Lake Fateh Sagar while most of the lakes are still receiving water from other natural or manmade canals and rivers.
According to the Department of Irrigation, Udaipur has received 655.8 mm of rainfall till now. Som pickup wear has received the maximum rainfall of 1262 mm in this season while Nai has received the lowest 539 mm of rainfall.
The rain showers are continuously pouring from the last two days in the city throughout the day and night. These moderate showers and drizzling have kept the city wet since Monday morning and this phase is still going on.
Local commuters including school children are facing trouble but it’s certainly acceptable till there is no water logging on roads and residential colonies in lower lying areas.
Though there are reports that some trees have collapsed in the city but no casualties have been reported. Just to mention, a house in feeble condition collapsed at Paduna village on 5th September resulting 2 deaths but there is no source which can confirm that the cause of incident is heavy and continuous rain.
Flood Control room of Irrigation Department has informed that almost all areas of the region have received good rain fall. Udaipur has received 655.8, Salumbar (825), Jaisamand (762), Daya (782), Kejad (586), Som kagdar (708) Rishabhdev (723), Semari (728), Kherwara (578) Kotra ( 840) Jhadol ( 856) Madar Bada (560), Swaroop Sagar ( 660), Udaisagar (713) and Vallabh Nagar ( 668) mm rainfall in the season.
Due to continuous flow of water from lakes of Udaipur the level of Lake Udaisagar is rising speedily..
