Udaipur was awash with heavy rains followed by a thunderstorm all over the city today evening, with hail in some parts of the city. The rain continued for more than an hour and upset the usual climatic condition, though it turned the weather soothing for evening walkers.

The drizzling started around 6pm and continued for over an hour.

Rain hits Udaipur, Hail Beats the heat

Prof. S.N.A Jaffery, HOD, Physics, said, “As we all can see, the day time temperature in Udaipur is following a pattern of being too hot nearer to mid-day; and because of that the water bodies around evaporate rapidly (swiftly than the usual rate)”.

“The evaporated water then goes up (approx. 5 – 7kms), where the temperature is already too low (near 0 degrees). The water then gets converted into ice, and that results in wind, showers and uninvited mild rainfall”, he added.

He also said, the formation of ice by the evaporated water is able to spread its shower and hail up to 100 km of radius. This rainfall will reduce the temperature of the day-time itself and then we would be back to normal. However, when the temperature rises to more than 40 degrees, then it is natural to expect hail and showers.
