The 4th Grade employees of Maharana Bhopal (MB) Hospital stopped their work and protested when a resident doctor allegedly beat a ward-boy. The hour long protest finally got over when hospital management interfered in the matter and asked the doctor to apologize to the victim publicly.
As per the report, Mahendra Nalvaya, ward boy, who is appointed in Orthopedic Ward of MB Hospital, was doing his daily chores of setting and cleaning of Operation Theater when a resident doctor Mithilesh Meena asked him to bring the patient in OT. According to Mahendra, “We are not supposed to bring in any patient without preparing the OT, when I told this to Mithilesh, he started arguing and later beat me badly.”
Soon after the incident, hundreds of workers including, ward-boys, sweepers etc. staged demonstration and started shouting slogans against the resident doctor Meena.
The group of workers led by Gopal Singh Tank went to meet the hospital incharge Dr. D.P. Singh and demanded to suspend the culprit. However, Dr. Singh rejected the demand but agreed to direct the doctor to apologize verbally and in writing to the victim.
Police reached to calm the situation but no case has been registered as the matter was negotiated between the hospital authorities and the workers.
Dr D.P. Singh said, “We have decided to take strict action with any doctor, senior or junior if such incident is repeated in future.”
