All the guests were made to register at the registration counters set up at the RNT Campus yesterday evening and today, the inaugural function was presided over by Gulam Nabi Azad, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and C.P. Joshi, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways.
Earlier during the day, an informal get-together was organized where old colleagues and college mates from all past batched got together remembering their times at the RNT campus. A light mood prevailed all across the venue.
In the inaugural ceremony at 5:30 pm, Gulam Nabi Azad and CP Joshi honoured past Principals of the RNT College.
The Principal of RNT, Dr. J.K. Kaushik announced that the 1967 batch of RNT College has adopted the Cottage Ward in the Hospital campus and a corpus of the 1967 batch doctors was set up, which pledged to spend Rs. 50 lac per year on the operations and development of the ward.
The Principal further announced that the current 100 seats available in the college will be extended to 250 seats to meet the growing demand.
A loud applause and cheer went up among the gathering when it was announced that the Central Government had decided to sanction Rs. 13 Crore for the development of RabindranathTagore Medical College.
The day culminated after a joint dinner and tomorrow will see a cultural event followed by lunch.
