Udaipur Bird Watchers Spotted 55 Species, many Migrated

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Dr. Salim Ali, eminently known as the Birdman of India and Father of Ornithology, a group of bird aficionados and nature lovers of Udaipur enjoyed a bird watching trail today at Jal Bhurj, Dudh Talai.

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Dr. Salim Ali, eminently known as the Birdman of India and Father of Ornithology, a group of bird aficionados and nature lovers of Udaipur enjoyed a bird watching trail today at Jal Bhurj, Dudh Talai.

More than 50 species of birds, many of them migrating and some too rare to be found were discovered by the group in their 2 hour event.

Bird Watching and Photography on this occasion was initiated by the Forest Department of Udaipur.  The group was led by Dr. N.C. Jain – Chief Conservator of Forests and Dr. Satish Sharma, who briefed the attendees by giving a short biography on legendry Dr. Salim Ali.

The group consisted of many experts including prominent nature photographers, Sharad Agarwal and Shailendra Tiwari.

“We have found 55 birds from different species. The migrating birds, to name a few, were – Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa Dauurica), Grey-headed Canary Flycatcher (Culicicapa Ceylonesis), Red-throated Flycatcher (Ficedula parva), White-bellied Drongo (Dicrurus Caerulescens), Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia Curruca) and Black Redstart (Phoenicurus Ochruros)” said Sharad Agarwal.

Dr. N.C. Jain told UT that they will be continuing more such events.  “We have already planned a bird watching event on the New Year’s Day, January 1, 2012, as by this month end we are expecting more migrating birds to come to the Lakecity, Udaipur” he said.
