Udaipur gears up for Largest Musical Feast

‘50th Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Samaroh’, the 5 day Indian classical music concert will begin tomorrow on the 11th of January, 2012 at Udaipur’s Sukhadia Rang Manch, Town Hall Road. Approximately 30 artists are expected to perform live in this concert, of which there are 3 lead musical instrument players, 2 lead singers and 2 lead dancers; while the rest will be group members and support artists.

 

Udaipur gears up for Largest Musical Feast‘50th Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Samaroh’, the 5 day Indian classical music concert will begin tomorrow on the 11th of January, 2012 at Udaipur’s Sukhadia Rang Manch, Town Hall Road.

Approximately 30 artists are expected to perform live in this concert, of which there are 3 lead musical instrument players, 2 lead singers and 2 lead dancers; while the rest will be group members and support artists.

On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee, the committee (Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Parishad) has proposed to honor various eminent artists.

Renowned Sarod player, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his wife Subhlaxmi Khan, an Indian classical dancer, will be given the Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Award and Inscription Letter, respectively on the first day of the concert.

On the second day of concert, Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Committee will present the Golden Jubilee Memento to those local artists who have supported the effective functioning of the concert in the past years and still, are very active on the front.

The third day of the concert will witness the awarding of the M.N. Mathur Award to Dr. Sonal Mansingh, famous Oddisi dancer.

The Committee is also initiating a new tradition from this year onwards, of rewarding those students who have studied Sangeet Raj Music, with the Maharana Kumbha Manishi Award. Dr. Lata Sharma will be the first one to receive this award for completing the Sangeet Raj.

Apart from awards the other new initiative will be the introduction of a gallery exhibiting Vinay Bhanawat’s collection of postal stamps related to music and a series of currency notes as per the birthdates of famous musicians.

A stall, displaying books, pictures, paintings, music and video CDs of activities over the last fifty years will also be an added attraction in the event.

The management of this 5 day event is done by “Fusion Events”, Indore. Fusion Events has managing this event on a voluntary basis over the past 3 years.

11th January Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan (solo/ group Sarod recital)
12th January Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena), Pandit Ajay Chakraborty (Vocal)
13th January Dr. Sonal Mansingh (Odissi dance)
14th January Dr. Kumud Diwan (Vocal), Shahid Parvez (Sitar )
15th January Pandit Birju Maharaj (Kathak )
