Udaipur, May 14, 2025 – A significant meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee was held today, May 14, chaired by Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta. The discussion focused on promoting tourism in Udaipur and ensuring the safety of tourists. The Collector emphasised that tourism has given Udaipur a distinct identity globally and tourist safety should be the topmost priority.

Potential for Night Tourism

Highlighting the potential for night tourism in the city, the Collector said that Udaipur needs to enhance public transport, marketplaces and other basic infrastructure to support night-time travel and experiences. He noted that this is also part of the State Government’s budget announcement and called for coordinated efforts. Discussions included extended hours at tourist sites, setting up cafeterias, better lighting and organising night markets.

Wildlife Tourism Circuit Plan

Recognising the potential for wildlife tourism, the Collector suggested creating an integrated circuit plan combining Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and other districts in the division. He directed the DFO to prepare this plan within a week and ensure it is displayed at major hotels and tourist spots for easy visitor access. The plan should include each area's special features, opening hours, fee structure, etc. He also instructed the DFO to repair convex safety mirrors on the winding roads of Sajjangarh within a week.

Focus on Safety and Tourist Facilities

Emphasising the importance of security and convenience, the Collector ordered effective monitoring of the Tourism Police Station and strict action against touts. He also directed that artistic signboards be installed outside all tourist sites within a month to help tourists navigate easily. He reviewed the staffing at tourism police stations and instructed that adequate personnel be deployed at all major tourist spots.

Regarding cleanliness of public restrooms, the Collector instructed the Nagar Nigam and Udaipur District Authority (UDA) Commissioners to survey existing facilities and submit a report. He stressed that restrooms must be regularly cleaned and immediately repaired where needed.

Auto Fare Regulation

The meeting also addressed issues related to the tourism police, auto stands and fixing auto fares. Proposals were made to regulate fares, standardise auto drivers' uniforms and ensure autos display name plates and numbers. The Collector directed representatives from the auto union, tourism, administration, transport department and traffic police to meet and work toward implementing these measures.
