On the occasion of the 143rd Death Anniversary of Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, popularly known as Mirza Ghalib, a program was conducted today named “Yaum-e-Ghalib” at the Govind Katputli Kendra at Lok Kala Mandal.
The event comprised of a telefilm based on Mirza Ghalib and a fancy dress competition ‘Ghalib Dress’ for school children.
28 kids from Garib Nagar School, Bohra Youth Public School at Khanjipeer and Bohrwadi and Anjuman Talimul Islam School participated in the contest. All of them were dressed up in various typical outfits of Ghalib, for which he is acknowledged, apart from his unbeatable mystic poetries today.
The guests in the event were Furqan Khan (RAS), Dr. Rais Ahmad from the Department of Urdu at MLSU, Fakhrudin Chakkiwala and Shailendra Dashora (President of WZCC). The judges for the events were Dr. Rais Ahmad and Fakhrudin Chakkiwala.
Shailendra Dashora said, “Urdu is very soft language and most importantly it is one of the significant Indian languages. Such events are appreciated and should be conducted more often.”
Pleased with the event, Furqan Khan said, “It is a nice initiative taken by the organizers. I enjoyed the event to my fullest.”
Organized by The Performers group of Udaipur, the event was supported by various social organizations of the city and Lakecity Press Club took up the responsibility of the media distribution of the event.
Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan is known as the poet of the Mughal era in India. He was the last classical and the first modern poet of Urdu and Persian language in the country. He had taken on Ghalib as his pseudonym (pen name), which later became his identity.
Ghalib is more famous for his incomparable work in ghazals than his poems. His writing had a touch of philosophies, struggles and mysteries of life in it. Many singers today make use of his ghazals and sing them in their own way.
