Udaipur, May 3, 2025 - To meet the city’s water demand during the summer and to keep the lakes filled, water was released from the Madri and Akodara dams of Dewas project I and II, yesterday, May 2. At around 10:18 am on Friday, the gate of Akodara Dam was opened by one foot to release a discharge of 218.56 cusecs (cubic feet per second). Water was released from Madri Dam at around 9:00 am. After traveling through the Kodiyaat Tunnel, Nandeshwar channel and Sisarma river, the water completed its journey from the dams and into Lake Pichola by around 7:00 pm.

Currently, Lake Pichola stands at a level of 7.3 feet, compared to its full capacity of 11 feet. Once it fills up, the water will be diverted to Fateh Sagar which currently has a water level of 7.4 feet against its maximum of 13 feet.

This is the second time in two-and-a-half months that water is being brought into the lake, earlier being in February.

These lakes are crucial for meeting the drinking water needs of the city’s population. Pichola supplies 31 MLD (megalitres per day) of water to about 1.25 lakh people, while Fateh Sagar provides 17 MLD to over 50,000 residents. Akodra Dam, which has a total capacity of 60 feet, currently holds 21 feet of water.

Officials and staff from the Water Resources Department were present during the water release.
