Am I safe in my own city, Udaipur? Can I Count on Policemen & Teachers?

Today an incidence happened with me which shook my trust in the belief that I am living in one of the safest cities of India.

First my car was hit from behind and then I was bullied by a vastly outnumbered crowd of students just some 50 meters away from the so-called “Policemen” of Rajasthan Police.

I am an Udaipurite who drives a Honda Brio, my fault being that it has the registration of ANDHRA PRADESH as I used to work in Hyderabad previously. Today when I was driving home from Suraj Pole towards Sevashram, a speeding Bolero began honking at me repeatedly near the Hanuman Temple.

Just a few meters ahead, in front of the Gurudwara, a street puppy appeared out of nowhere and in order to save its life, I lowered my speed a bit. But the Bolero guy seemed in a hurry and immediately collided into my car from behind.

Things were pretty normal till this point. When I got down to have a word with the driver, I spotted 2 female & one male passenger apart from the driver. Later I came to know that one of the female was a Principal in some college & the other 2 were teachers. I suggested them that we should call the Police and let them decide whose fault was it.

I was still talking to the driver when the male teacher got down and grabbed me by my throat. Before I could understand anything, I found myself surrounded with around 15 students and the male teacher slapping me. I requested the teachers and the Principal to at least honor their designations, but they were in a different mood altogether.

I tried calling the Police in front of me but they just ignored the whole incidence and didn’t even care to look in that direction.

I somehow managed to take the picture of their number plate before they fled off conveniently, leaving me behind with their students. Not to mention how their students treated me, showing their power on a single person.

When I managed to get out of the whole mess with my damaged car, I went to the Policemen who were standing right in front of me. I asked them to at least get hold of the students who were creating nuisance, I got this reply:

THAT FRONT LANE DOESN’T COME UNDER OUR AREA, YOU SHOULD GO AND CALL SOMEONE FROM

THE SURAJ POLE POLICE STATION. WE CANNOT HELP YOU HERE IN ANY WAY!

They even ‘obliged’ me saying that this must have occurred because you have got an Andhra Pradesh registration vehicle!

If this is how highly learned TEACHERS (PRINCIPAL), students & the law-keeper POLICEMEN continue to behave in this beautiful city – Udaipur, then definitely the day is not far when we will lose our image & tourists visiting us from other states & countries.

I hope my article reaches those teachers & policemen to realize their faults.
