Subsequent to the year of corruption, we are now in the season of bails or bailouts.  All of the suspects who, in the corruption crackdown were put behind bars are, within a short span being given bail by the law and their case rests – temporarily in the books of law…but permanently otherwise.

Many of the famous scams viz. the 2G scam, CWG (Common Wealth Games) scam, Telgi scam, IPL scam, Satyam scam, etc., shocked our country and made us think – what is our government doing? Or is our country in the right hands?.  However, before the issues take any material form, these suspects have already been set free.

On 29th November 2011, Kanimozhi daughter of DMK chief Karunanidhi who was one of the prime suspects in the 2G scam secured bail after spending six months in Tihar jail.  Nine co-accused persons in the 2G scam were also given bail.  Among the prominent names among them were – Karim Morani, film maker, jailed in from 30th May 2011 – 28th November 2011; Gautam Doshi, ADAG (Anil Dirubhai Ambani Group), jailed in from 21st April 2011 – 23rd November 2011; Sharad Kumar, MD, Kalaingnar TV, jailed from 21st May 2011 – 28th November 2011.

Many other suspects of some famous scams in recent years have also been granted bail, viz. Ramalingam Raju, main accused in the Satyam scam was set free on 4th November 2011; Anil Gote, main accused in Telgi scam was given bail within 4 years of imprisonment.

These suspects have been in jail for only few a months till a couple of years, which is nothing but a drama in the name of justice or judicial procedures for the purpose of pacifying the public.  “All these people do illegal practices and then go to jail for a few months, get out on bail and the issue is sealed off.  This is the current scenario of the justice in our country and we are the common middle class people who have to suffer all the crises“, said Rajhans, a middle class worker.

These are the people who are the root cause for the socio-economic problems that our country is facing.  Though the accused of these scams are being prosecuted in the court, there is still no change among those people who commit illegal activities.  The change should first be inculcated in the people and then only will the government change” said Asim khan, a law student, and journalist.

Sanju Pandey, a journalism student said, “The law should be equal to all the people of India – if a common man would have done some crime then he won’t get such publicity and they are treated worse but these well-known personalities – they just go to jail for the sake of it, whereas within jail, they live the life of a king.”

Even though India is a developing country and soon people are expecting India to be a developed nation, however, in the present circumstances it could just be a dream for millions of Indians, as Law can be changed or even people can be educated, but corruption in its current form cannot be removed from its roots and until corruption exists we cannot develop as a nation.

The hopes are still alive to fetch a change in our country by people like Anna Hazare who fight to bring justice to the aam adami, but in turn there are thousands of A.Raja for each one Hazare.  Hence one Hazare is not enough – it is all on the people…only we can take the country forward, because we vote and elect.
