Udaipur has loads of beautiful places to know and Lake Palace is just another structure that we need to know of now. Lake palace is one of the most romantic hotels in the world. It was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II. Formerly known as Jag Niwas, it is now converted into a hotel with 66 rooms and 17 suites.
As Jag Niwas, it was built as a winter palace and named after its founder. Since Surya worship is considered very holy, the palace was built facing east so that the residents could worship Sun God. Later on it was used by the successors as the summer house and they used to hold their ‘durbars’ here. The courtyard has columns, terrace and gardens and fountains, too, add to the beauty. The top most room is made of black and white marble. The palace has a beautiful dome.
As time passed, weather took its toll on the palace. In the later years Maharana Bhagwat Singh decided to convert the palace into a luxury hotel. Since the building had started to fall down, converting it into a hotel was the best option available to preserve the place.
In 1971, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces took it over and added 75 rooms . In the year 2000 another restoration took place . A beautiful Lily pond has also been made in the palace. A cup of coffee or tea or juice and snacks by the pond is yet another wish which every commoner has set his heart on. This is yet another palace of Udaipur where film shootings have taken place and the beauty of this place got magnified on the silver screen making it more attractive, hence pulling in more tourists.
The Lake Palace hotel has very well set rooms which give a memory to cherish.
