In the era when all the games, except cricket were trying to survive in India, the Commonwealth Games came.

It was a myth that people living in India prefer watching/playing cricket only. The outstanding performance of India in Commonwealth games has come out as a significant myth-buster. Yes, we can be good everywhere. All we need is little encouragement.

London Olympics are not far away. And Indian Sportspersons really needed an adrenalin boost into their blood. Eventually, CWG did the exact what they needed.

Performance of India in Commonwealth Games was worth our appreciation and encouragement. Whether it is the Field or it is the organization, we outnumbered the whole world.

In India, it is never easy to be a player and that too be a “professional player”. A country where even Olympic level players have no surety of their earnings!

Sushil Kumar Solanki: When we hear this name, only three words come in our mind: “World Champion Wrestler”. But this man has faced a lot of trouble just to get this position. Sushil was inspired from his cousin Sandeep, who was also a wrestler. But, Sushil had to quit wresting at the age of 14, as his family was unable to afford the diet of a wrestler.

But still, he fought his own destiny, and brought a bronze in Olympics and Gold in CWG, Asian Games and World Championship.

Gagan Narang: This man is the Gold Mine of CWG. Brought 4 Golds in Melbourn CWG and did the same in Delhi 2010. Though this player was really disappointed for not receiving the prestigious “Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna” Award, yet he made India proud in CWG.

Anisa Sayyed: Being a women player is always difficult. She was a Ticket Collector at the Mumbai-Pune Railway route. And she requested Railway authorities to transfer her to Pune (her birth place) so that she can prepare for games. But after getting refusal, she quit the job, and concentrated on her game. Result, we all know, she won 2 Golds in CWG.

Saina Nehwal: The lady with electricity personified. You cannot depict from her game that she is only 20 years old. She has made India Proud not only in CWG 2010, but in 2008 Youth CWG as well.

But, to reach at the zenith of Indian badminton was never easy. From the age of 8, she started her training. Her father even risked all their money and PFs just to make sure that she gets training and proper kit.

Krishna Punia: She won the 30^th gold for India in Discus Throw. She hails from Churu district and represents Indian Railway. She is the first Indian Women to bring the gold medal in Discus Throw.

Despite being mother of an 8 year old kid, she didn’t get to see him for 6 months due to intense training.

Every struggling player has a story, an inspiring story behind his/her efforts. What I have shown here is just the tip of the iceberg and not only those who have won medals and struggled. Each and every player, who has worked hard, despite all the challenges and problems, deserves our appreciation and encouragement.
