Udaipur is referred to as “Venice of East”. The beauty of this city with greenery in abundance and the jaw dropping landscapes make it worthy enough of this name. Apart from the lakes and landscapes, there is something about this city that draws in not just the local public but also the tourists. These ‘something’s are those narrow lanes wherein you cannot take a four wheeler but can shop till you drop.

Lets get to know what these lanes bring us. These ‘galees’ have a vast variety which the modern day malls cannot give. You enter one extremely narrow lane and you get everything from the vegetables to kitchen utensils to dresses to toys to grocery to stationary to you name it and you get it.

These lanes are not just lanes but they accommodate life and necessities of life. Providing boarding and lodging to infinite number of tourists throughout the year, the lanes are a miracle in themselves. The mushroom growth of hotels provides bread to every local person, not just hotels but also paying guests accommodations and hostels. Why I say this is because the lanes have unique old havelis and bungalows of those times with antique look which have been a major attraction to foreign tourists. Every tourist season flooded with people from around the world, these bread earners are jam packed.

The most important part here is that the outer city people may not be as lucky as the people living in these lanes are as they get to learn a lot from the other cultures of world. Not just friendly alliances but even matrimonial alliances have happened with other nations with locals here in the lanes which also proves that the lanes are narrow, not the hearts and minds.
