Baatcheet: Let’s talk! An initiative taken up by a select group of students of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur set up on Sukhadia Circle for a single day stirred interest amongst the local residents.

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell team aspiring to learn and promote the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst them, met up with Manish Jain, founder of the NGO Shikshantar with a purpose of refining their efforts.

Manish lead them through various simple games to enhance their collective intelligence and team collaboration.

The team building activity included volunteering in Cafe Hulchul, a place for similar minded crazies as us, as Manish joyously quotes. Cafe Hulchul this weekend also saw a mixture of students from US and UK, associated with Seva Mandir.

On Sunday, the team rose with fresh energy and ideas for Manish’s business challenge.

The team had been lent Rs. 500 the previous evening, which they had to reproduce within 24 hours creating the best business possible from scratch.

The team vibrantly prepared a Hangout Joint named, Baatcheet at the roadside on Sukhadia Circle early morning today. Baatcheet aimed at bringing out the lost culture of meeting new people and making friends with a sentient background inspiring every visitor.

The joint’s two main attractions were Light Food and Greeting Cards neatly enclosed with smiles and general discussions.

Food Stall For old Baatcheet times’ sake! Aviral, Apporva, Anchit, Rahul, Siddharth, Viral and Abhinav handled this section, which was set up using a smartly bargained stall and provided delicious team made bhel and monachos (monacos served with request toppings). The ingredients for these delicacies had been carefully lined within the budget. The team used hygienic facilities to prepare the dishes. The Food team prepared bhel and monachos as they met new people and served them fresh. Rakesh Agrawal, associated with an upcoming school in Pali, who enjoyed the arrangement to the extreme asked if the team could include them the next time when this activity sets up again. He appreciated the effort a lot and hoped that the initiative gets an equally amazing response. The bhel and a plate of monachos, each had been priced reasonably at Rs.15.   Greeting Cards’ shack: For old Baatcheet times’ sake!

Adarsh, Sarthak, Kalpit and Tushar handled the shack which was set up using a table (created with a waste carrom board and a broken bucket by Shikshantar) and seats (made by stitching disposed rubber tyres by Shikshantar again) and purchasing stationery items within the challenging budget.

The Cards team made cards according to the individual’s need. With two doodlers and two poets, they got the best of personalized greeting cards.

An amused Vikas from Jaipur got a card made for his fiancé back in the city and praised the efforts, seeing which a Gujarati family got three cards made for themselves.

The team didn’t price the cards but only took generously given payment by the ordering person if they were satisfied with the job done.

The team packed up at the end of the 24th hour, covered the lent principal amount and generated a profit of Rs 558.

Apart from being motivated by the effort and learning from their mistakes, Baatcheet also stirred extraordinary curiosity in the regular city crowd and gave them an idea to follow up.

After the entire time spent with Manish and the activities, the team can’t differentiate which was the most educational part: their first close encounter with a NGO,  their first hard earned income, their first public small scale social initiative or their first practical implementation in entrepreneurship!
